3000 Grand Apartments

Can any DMU students comment on these apartments right next to campus? I've heard mixed reviews on them (good: next door to school, bad: $$$ for dm standards).

Also, do some students live in downtown des moines? I saw some nice places (either new or renovated) that seem to be in good parts of downtown and connected to the skywalk system.

Oh, I'm not married so that will not factor in my decision for a place to live. I talked to 2 guys about maybe living together but it is not definite yet.
 
im lookin into 3000 grand mostly because i dont know of any other nice apartments by the school....

im goin to be roomin with a guy goin to DPM school as well who frequents this board

I think you nailed it on the head about 3000 Grand. A lot of students live there for the first year and split once they get to know the city. Downtown is nice and a fun place to be if you are single. The cost will be about the same if not more than 3000 Grand.

Other nice places to look are in West Des Moines (that is were the majority of students live), Ankeny, Johnston, Clive, Waukee, Polk City, Altoona, and Grimes. The first two suburbs are the largest and closest to school.

Another thought if you have two roommates is to get a house rent or own. As you have mentioned the cost of living will be much much lower than you are used to so this is a very doable option.

I personally live in Polk City. It is a small suburb (5, 000) north of DM. I like being away for WDM and all of the people but I have a kid and wife. If you told me what you wanted out of a your apartment or house, I may be able to direct you more. What I mean is do you want to be by bars, restaurants, lakes, golf courses, shopping centers, ect.
