Hi Everyone!

Just wondering what other professions you might be considering other than OD...

Right now, optometry school in the USA is my major backup to optometry at waterloo... academic requirements are at least easier but everything else looks roughly the same.

I'm also looking at pharmacy at the University of Toronto. They will accept highschool courses to fill a few of the pre-reqs and all the others are first year courses. And best of all, no essays or letters of reference, no interview, just the silly little UofT pharmacy test where u answer some questions about the profession and write an essay about why u want to be a pharmacist (or somethin' like that).

And as of tonight, Dentistry at UofT and the University of Western Ontario look interesting since they both don't require essays or references either. However, can't say the Canadian DAT w/ soap carving sounds like much fun 😱

I can't believe the canadian DAT has carving on it. Didn't the US DAT get rid of that years ago?

I do think the US got rid of the soap carving thing or for sure I would have heard my friends complaining about it. The US DAT has that crazy thing about fold a paper this way, and that way 5 different times and then punch a hold or half circle in it and now unfold the paper and where are all the holes now. This is all mental also, you don't have a test paper in front of you to do that 🙂

I'd think VERY hard about applying to dental school as a backup to something else. For one, it's not easy to get into; for two, it's every bit as demanding as any other professional curriculum. If it's not something your heart is into, it's going to be a very, very long four years.

I think even if your heart *is* into it, it's still a pretty long four years. 😉
