Hey,

Anybody knows where I can find the reqs to sit for the American boards? Esp re: reqs of the intern year (i.e. what rotations are required).

Thx

I'm quoting from the ABR site

1 year in clinical training . The first postgraduate year must be accredited clinical training in internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery or surgical specialties, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, family practice, emergency medicine, transitional year, or any combination of these. No more than a total of three months may be spent in radiology, radiation oncology, and/or pathology. All clinical training must be in an ACGME-, AOA-, or RCPSC- approved program (or equivalent).

I'm not sure if that means any specific number of periods in medicine or surgery et al. As I vehemently dislike surgery, I'm trying find what are the minimum surgical reqs to be board eligible if there are any...

Insert an 'or' operator between those specialties. The only thing they don't want you to do is to do a 1 year 'radiology' internship 😉

How can you do a one year internship in EM, OB, or FM? Would you apply to these separately from actually applying to the 3-4 yr residency?

That means people who started out in EM, FP or OB and 'see the light' later on. Basically you can do anything that gives you clinical training.

Maybe these guys have stellar numbers or is it the funding issue? but its easier to 'see the light' from specialties like ENT, Ortho, Neuro rather than peds, IM or FP- though I have seen people from all of the fields listed above.
