Does anybody know if the automated phoropters that involve using a computer to control the whole process are any good.

Autorefractors are good for a general ballpark, but nothing is as good as CPW or TomOD cranking out your refraction with a good ole loose lens set or phoropter! 😉OD. said:

Are we talking about auto phoropters or autorefractors?-- 2 different things.
Autorefractors nowadays will get most refractions within a few clicks here or there. Some better than others.
Autophoropters are fairly new devices designed to help ease the refractive process. Most have small consule control allowing you to sit down. They are neat devices but pricey.
