Hi,
I'm a 3rd/soon to be 4th year who after contemplating a bunch of different career options is considering radiology. My question is, does anyone know of good away options for early next academic year that could still be available this late in the year? I know some of the UC schools have late deadlines for away apps, but I wasn't sure if anyone was aware of others. Also, I'm interested in peds radiology or mammo--would it be better to look for these opportunities in an away (or even at home)? Any input is much appreciated, thanks!

You still have a few months - at least July, August, September and poss. October. So...

1. Try to sign up for a radiology intro elective at your own institution. This is the best option. Try to do well and get a good letter of rec.

2. If the spots are filled/the course does not exist, try to get it at one of the affiliated hospitals or even an away elective an a place where you may potentially do residency. Another option is to speak with one of the staff radiologists/chairman/prog dir and have a custom "intro" rotation made up for you - you can just visit multiple sections and observe, maybe help them out with a project or something. For instance, offer them to interview patients, get consents and stuff before breast biopsies, write in the chart... etc. They will give you a kick-@$$ letter if you are good.

3. Post your results here🙂

Thanks for the quick reply--I got a home elective in August, and I'm meeting with our PD this week to better plan out the rest of my year. Thanks again!
