Hey! I've been accepted into the two year program at Barry. I also hope to go to dental school. Do you know where you will be living? I was in Miami a few weeks ago trying to find a place.

Yes, I will be driving. I'm actually living 15 minutes from school, out in Sunny Isles. Living near school is slightly sketchy, however, there is a place called Capri Gardens that isn't too bad, and it's gated (sorta). I dunno, I'm happy living farther from school, I think it also helps me feel like im not chained down to my academics 🙂

If not, is there another way where we can chat? I have heard of pembrooke pines, it's supposed to be ok, but im not sure it's so close to school. I'm living in Sunny Isles, Aventura is nice too... I used the school listings, and then finally got an agent... have you tried the listings?

By the way, how many of us are there in this 1 year thingy. I hear it's hard? What school did you go to? LOL, sorry I have SO many questions. I don't think it's going to be that hard, but then again I think it depends on what you know. Please write back!!

Btw, I checked out that place for you, Pembrooke Pines... My mom said it's a nice area, but according to this book I got of Florida, the Pembroke pines area is 20 minutes from Barry University. It's not that far, but the only issue is that it is west of I-95. I was told the east-west commute is not something that you want to be doing...

I am applying to Dental School for this cycle, but honestly think that I am going to have to a post bacc year first. When do I apply for fall 2006? Are you guys attending this fall?

Yah, I'm attending this fall. I think you should apply as early as possible, because some of them seem like they are super competitive to get into. I think with a good gpa (over 3.5) you shouldn't worry as much, because so many people are there to boost gpa. I got into Barry in June and that's when I applied, but I have an average gpa of 3.2 and an MCAT of 32... I think some people in SMPs have lower than that.

What I would say is to be safe, and especially if you want to go to BU or georgetown, where it seems like theres more competition, then apply before the spring - like either at the beginning of winter semester or even if you really want before the end of the fall semester... Why not be safe than sorry...

I'm applying to dental school this year, but I'm starting to research 1 yr. masters programs too. I looked at Barry's one yr. option (option 1) and it said they needed MCAT scores. Did you take the MCAT? I'm wondering if any of these programs take DAT scores. The DAT is harder than the GRE, so I'd think they would.

Hey Dental Lover,

Go to the barry website

www.barry.edu, and go to student life and then go to residential life, then go to off campus listings. Look at listings that say Capri Gardens... I think they are like 11900 or something and like 12035 NE 2nd street...

That will give you numbers of people to contact. They are condos, so you have to contact the owners outright. For the 1 bedroom, they were looking for $850. one of the ones I looked at was a dump, and the other I think was going to be nice, but by that time I decided I wanted to live near the beach, and in a better area. I think you still need a car if you live at capri gardens in order to do your shopping.

I'm living in a condo in Sunny Isles (right next to aventura). I think all the places I looked at in Aventura were the same price as all the places I looked at in Sunny Isles. I'm glad where I am cuz it's close to the beach...

I saw a few places right next to the mall, going for 800 and up, but they were really dumpy. I'd also be curious to know if you found a place for under 800 (if you're living alone)...

hey guys, my name is aditya, im in the 2 yr program but im waitlisted on the 1 yr. im pushing for the 1 yr. but if i dont get it, i dont mind doing the 2 yr cuz im looking to take two yrs off before med school. just wondering if u guys knew how good the barry grad program was for getting people into med school.
