I've read a lot of posts about how good UoP's dental school is, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. But I have no idea what kind of students they take for the accelerated Dental Program at UoP, 5/6 year, all they said was 31+ ACT and 3.7+ GPA.

Unweighted GPA-3.86

As with all "What are my chances?" threads... the only thing we can really do is give suggestions on how you can improve your app and then let you apply and see how it goes. There isn't a whole ton of published data on accelerated program admissions so we can't compare your stats to the averages and trends plus there are lots of subjective factors like essays and interviews which may make or break an despite strong statistics.

Overall, your academics do look strong. As long as you maintain you grades senior year I'd say they are probably competitive for the program in that respect.

As far as the ECs/Volunteering goes, I don't see any dental related activities and this is a red flag to me. You're telling me you want to commit to a profession, but how can I tell you know anything about it?

I'd suggest you try to get in and shadow a dentist as much as possible this year while you're applying.

well, the reason I haven't shadowed any dentists is because I was expecting to do that when I got into college. I have not considered the accelerated programs before this, and everyone told me to concentrate on my academics and more well known volunteering. The reason I'm interested in a dental career is I did a health careers program at the university of minnesota, which was actually quite selective to get into. We visited all the dental facilities and even performed on the dummies with the computer telling us what to do.

But what would be a good way to get in touch with a dentist? Just call the practice and ask if I could shadow for them? Thanks again.

Without much exposure, I suspect it will be more difficult to get into an accelerated program. The program that you mentioned @ U of MN might help a little though.

I would talk to your dentist and mention that you'd be applying to a dental program, ask if you could come and shadow. If that doesn't work then try some more connections (through family/friends) before you start randomly calling offices. But most people in the health professions had to do some shadowing before they could get into school so they're usually pretty receptive.

your overall stats looks good, besides the ECs. like everyone said, the admissions committee want to see that you have experience in the field that you want to commit to. they want to see that you are aware of both the positives and the negatives of the field and have taken them into consideration before applying to the program. Do u plan to take the SATs or the ACTs again? if u have the time it never hurts...

Its a toss up. What are your SAT II scores? I think Upenn (i hope this is what u mean by UoP) requires 3 (not sure), also whats ur class rank?

Your in the pool but you have no extra hooks.
Do you have any legacy?

Also how is your essay and recommendations coming? because they also play a big factor.

^^UoP is University of the Pacific

I have a friend in that program right now. The summer before his senior year he interned with an oral surgeon for a good 200+ hours so I would really consider doing some shadowing.
