For those in residency, how do residency directors (or whoever accepts me into their residency) weigh leadership experience, volunteer work, and other do-dads?

If I liked research just as much as volunteering, would it be better worth my time to do research?

Just wondering how current residents think my time is best spent.

i'm not a resident, but i'm pretty sure that if you get a publication, then research is definately more worth while.

not sure about just research without pubs though... it really depends on what you did
