Hey, how's everyone doing?
This is my first post and I wanted to know if anyone has any experience with Columbia's Postbacc Premed program? I'm in California and I'm strongly thinking of moving out to NY for this program this fall. Thus, I'm trying to gather as much information about Columbia's Postbacc program as I can. Any thoughts or experiences would be great. Was the program helpful? How did the linkage' programs work out for you? How are the professors and premed advisors? Thanks in advance to everyone that takes the time to post!

Check out the thread entitled "Easiest Post-Bacc to get a 4.0 in." A couple of CU post bacs wrote candidly about the program and their experiences.

I was a Barnard College undergrad and pretty much agree about the level of competition (very high) and how challenging the school can be.

Hi,

I have loved the program. It isn't for everyone, but was for me since I went to a very small school and was ready to be in a completely different environment.

I had lots of reasons but all in all I really wanted to move to NYC, liked that the program has a good reputation with medical schools, and I liked my advisor . I don't know much about linkage except that most people don't do them.

Yes, the competition is really intense but it is up to you whether or not to engage in it. I personally only talk to a couple people and don't talk to those I figured out early on who are ocd.

I've enjoyed my classes but then again I know some people who hate them....really and truly I think you have to go with the school that you 'want" the most. It is like any large university, lots of TAs and some professors who only care about their research BUT there are also some who will have constant office hours and be incredible.

I can't offer any advice about how well the post bacs fair in medical school admissions, but I haven't spoken to anyone who hasn't gotten in somewhere. Good luck making your decision, but it has been by fair one of the best decisions I have ever made.

take care
