Hey guys,

Quick question. Through a little bit of googling, I found some medical students from my school who have been sucessful in finding residency in some California programs. The problem is, I don't have their email addresses. They aren't posted on the "current residents" page for the radiology department.

I looked in my school directory and their emails don't exist anymore. I was thinking I could just email the residency director of the program and say that I was interested in their program and I noticed some alumni that have matched there and would like to contact them for advice on matching to the same program. Does anyone see a problem with this?

I also thought about contacting the people in my radiology department here but I doubt they have any updated contact info for their alumni. Their past history in this area has been disappointing.

Thanks.

So they're not current residents at the programs? Are they attendings/fellows now? What would you ask them?

I think he's saying that they are at the program, just the emails are not listed on the current residents section.

Ah, asking the program coordinator would probably be the best bet, then. Def don't email the PD for this.

Yea this is correct. I guess I just wanted to be proactive and show interest and maybe these current residents could tell me what helped them match into that program and what to look out for.

Thanks guys.

Try facebook. I found and contacted an alum of my med school who was at a prelim I was interested in this way.

I think trying to get their contact info through the PC is much better than facebook. Many find it creepy when they are tracked down on facebook by a random person, even if intentions are good.

Yeah, unless you them personally I wouldn't use Facebook

That's fair. I don't think it was awkward at all to use FB, but you have to know how to phrase things (and you should lead with a joke or an "I'm so sorry to..."). If you feel more comfortable emailing the PC, there's nothing wrong with that.

Thanks for the advice guys. I ended up emailing the residency coordinators.
