Hello, I just got accepted for a 4week anesthetisiology elective at the Cook County and I don’t know anyone who went there..so I’d like to get a little bit of advice from you who previously attended to that elective program or heard about it..
also I am an international student, can anyone suggest where should I buy liability insurance for 30days?
Would appreciate your help very much!!!

Interviewed there. They seemed initially like a friendly program for IMGs, but indeed i doubt they are. Very strict with Steps scores and will not even turn your way if you scored less that 240+. From the insiders: they are spoiled with applications 250+. May be things changed, since it's been a few years ago, but i doubt. Also, their web-site has not been updated for a few years, which by itself says a lot about how things are run there.

I’m kinda confused because their website says they prefer candidates with step scores in the 90th percentile, yet their residents are 100% IMG.

Is it really that competitive? And if so, I’m confused as to why they don’t have any US-MD residents.

IMGs considering anesthesia have step scores in the 240s-250s a lot of the times. So it’s easy to see how the statement on the website would be true.

Thank you very much for your comment!! Actually, I like anesthesiology but I don’t want Anesthesiology for residency , I would like to do an elective there to gain clinical experience and may be get a LOR

They have US-MD residents. Chicago overall is a complex place in terms of anesthesia programs ( i don't even start this conversation here...) CCH looks like a friendly one, and they are, but like any other program they want to look like a prestigious, competitive in terms of scores of their applicants with 100% passing boards etc. It used to be that US graduates would not consider CCH, but time changed. More DOs apply and competition goes up every year. By the way, residents listed as CA-3 graduated 2 years ago, that is how "updated" they keep their web site. You will see yourself soon. Again, merits of getting a good experience and a chance of getting a good LOR is there for you...

Thank you for all the informations!! Appreciate your help!
