Hey high school seniors/juniors!
I see this question way too much

"What major should I choose in UG?"

LET ME CLEAR SOMETHING UP FOR YOU ALL!

It. Dosnt. Matter.

Choose a field you are interested in, but be sure to complete medical school pre-req classes (General Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Psychology, Physics, etc)

~End of transmission~

[EDIT]

Have a backup plan. This means choose a field where you will actually be able to get a job out of college. i.e. Psychology is a no go unless you take it all the way to PHD or MD.

Wrong. Choose something you like but be wary of what has market value and what doesn't. Majoring in Gender Studies or Philosophy will not land you a job in the event that you don't get into professional school.

*good point, however the kids are asking what will be the best major to get them into MS. Looking into the saturation/reimbursement is not the first thing they look at. There has to be both affinity and logic

Finally someone understands.

ALWAYS have a back up plan. I don't care how much you just know medicine is your calling and you won't be the one that changes their mind or doesn't get in. Have a back up plan. I see too many people graduate with a bio degree and have absolutely no idea what to do with it because they had no back up plan.

Devil's advocate: maybe their backup plan is just something else that doesn't care about your undergrad degree type. MD is hard to get a seat, but mediocre law schools or business schools? Or even within the medical realm, newer DO schools, or let's say podiatry or audiology or optometry? It would be pretty dang hard for this pre-med to have to use their college degree.
