Example, if one goes to Inova vs. a lesser known program is it necessarily true that the guy who went to Inova will get the better offers, all things being equal? Is this based solely on the rep of the residency in the eyes of employers?

Or can someone get just as good a job offer from say, an ortho group or whatever, from a less tier-ed, less competitive residency program?

The answer is yes but for several reasons. One, residencies are like fraternities. If you go through West Penn, you might get a job from a previous West Penn graduate. Two and more importantly, what are you exposed too? Are you trained in ex-fix, peds, RF trauma, ect?

So yes, you residency does effect what jobs you can get, but the training not the name is the most important factor.
