I'm a medical student a couple weeks into dedicated radiology research. About 6 hours of my day are spent measuring things on abdominal CTs. By the end of each day, I have really bad eye strain that evolves into a terrible headache that takes about two hours to go away. I have messed with the brightness of my monitor and switched to using windows that aren't as bright when measuring/reading CT, but I still get this eye strain/headache.

Has anyone experienced this? Is this something that my eyes will eventually get used to? Is there something I can do to improve my "optic ergonomics" here to avoid this? Because, as much as I love radiology, I don't think I could do it for a career if this is how I feel at the end of every day for 2 hours.

Any thoughts or experiences or advice would be appreciated. I have had plenty of screen time (studying or video games) previously without this ever happening. There is something about these Barco monitors that make my eyes want to explode after a day's work.

Could it be blue light issues?

See if you can install flux on the computer and see if it helps.

If it does, then perhaps look into blue light blocking glasses.

Don't have any problem. Have been in this profession before PACS. Haven't heard anybody gets eye problems, though some get neck pain or carpal tunnel syndrome or finger pain after a long day of work.

Have your eyes checked. They are your most precious assets.

I have not personally experienced this problem but have known attendings (veterinary radiologists) that have had this problem. They have started to use computer glasses that block blue light and swear by them. This is anecdotal evidence for sure but I have looked a little into getting some for myself. As was stated prior, schedule an appointment to get your eyes checked and while there you may be able to pick the ophthalmologists brain about the best glasses to get or how to proceed. I whole heartedly agree with your eyes being your greatest assets.
