Has anybody missed an interview for travel/weather reasons? How did the program handle it?? With such limited interview days, I'm really curious if or how derm reschedules.

(written as I sit in the airport waiting out a 3 hr delay, hoping I make my interview tomorrow!!)

not too understanding...

how far is it? drive there if u can.

last interview season saw some of the worst weather ever.

after one of my flights was cancelled i rented a car and drove 520 miles overnight through a hellacious snowstorm in order to make one of my interviews. I arrived at my hotel at 5:30am, slept for 1 hr, and made it to my interview at 7:30am. i figured if i killed myself to get the few stinkin interviews i got, why not kill myself just a bit more to get to them? the program was impressed as i told the tale to several of my interviewers. or maybe they just thought i was psychotic. but i got there, and that's the point. i think.

I missed one due to really bad weather conditions at my home airport. Getting on a different flight was impossible (since all flights were grounded). It was too far to drive (16 hours).

Once I realized I was going to miss the interview (and it was a Saturday interview if I remember correctly), I wanted to call someone and let them know I wasn't going to be able to make it. But the office was closed (it was Friday night) and it wasn't really open the next morning either. After calling around a while, someone suggested that I page the on-call resident so they could at least let someone know why I wasn't there. When I explained my plight to him, he said that he would let the faculty know, but really had no idea if they would let me come at another time or if anything could be done and that I should try calling Monday.

So, I did that, and explained the situation to the person coordinating interviews (who was already aware of the situation). She ultimately scheduled me for their next interview date.

I found these unexpected delays to be the most unpredictable and stressful part of the interview...as if there isn't enough things to stress about! Sometimes it's just out of our hands with flight delays...several co-applicants had their interviews rescheduled while others did not...this can be tough though if you already have another interview on the alternate dates...but it's definitely worth a try to let someone know if you can't make it.

Kudos to sore eyes for making that long trip by car...sounds pretty crazy and exciting....and to reno for figuring out how to get through on a Friday night.

good luck to you, ldybugg82.

you are not alone today.

currently stuck at the airport. 🙁

fingers crossed that i make my thursday morning interview.

i cringe at the idea of driving 13 hours in the snow.

I'm actually applying to ER not Derm but I was looking at the main Thread page and this thread was posted there. I recently had to cancel an interview (it would've been today) because of the weather in Atlanta. I cant even get off of my street becauase it is too icy. All of the flights Monday and some Tuesday out of Atlanta were cancelled (hundreds of flights). I'm not happy at all because today was the programs last interview day and they are not opening up additaional dates! It sucks because it was a program I was really looking forward to. The worst part is it hasnt snowed like this in Atlanta in years and this happens 1 day before my interview! Maybe its a sign?? .....but I feel your pain👎

Is that the place you Matched at?

I met a girl on the trail who missed an interview in Minnesota during the recent snow storm. She called the program, and they said, "Peace."

I missed an interview due to flight cancellation from weather, and the program coordinator went through a lot of hurdles to reschedule me my own separate interview day with several faculty, complete with catered lunch with the residents and all. I think this is not the norm, and I was quite floored with their generosity
