Orlando-
Community program but I am not sure what the new medical school will do- Very little research but high specimen volume (50,000 surgs)- Great training for someone who just wants to practice- Most of our day is actually spent doing path- Not a lot of filler or busy work- Smart people are welcome, please come-

anyone have thoughts on florida residency programs? any pros/cons to
usf, uf, miami, orlando etc?
thnx very much

When the massive downturn in the Florida RE market hits, it might be an interesting place to be theoretically. There seems to be plentiful jobs in the state post-med malpractice tort disaster (malpractice 3-strikes law). I see most of FL medical community consolidating and condensing in the future. Ive always found it bizarre that a state so large with so many financial resources has never produced a single university of merit more than the Playboy's top ten party school list.

As a Florida alum, I don't know how I feel about you saying this ****! You better dam well be an Ivy League grad, or else it's on!!!

I applaud your enthusiasm for the ol' alma mater. Though at last check, there were more college girls from Florida who posed nude for Playboy than any other state AND of course it's the intellectual birthplace of the Girls Gone Wild series. Both notable achievements and am I sure your alum club events are quite the show....just curious tho, are white T-shirts provided to all the ladies? You know, when the dean meets all the esteemed graduates and begins hosing them down while chugging a flaming shot of Bacardi.

Seriously, why hold seminars with Nobel laureates as speakers when my esteemed colleagues in Florida merely hoist a brass pole, a tip rail and be done with it!

I recently saw the movie "Accepted" which details the hijinks of a group of college rejects who found the South Harmon Institute of Technology. It almost felt like a documentary based on the true story of George Merrick's founding of U of Miami in the 1920s.

I wouldnt say Florida is not without impressive progressive thinking, I seem to remember applying to medical school there and seeing an application form with prior careers listed including "Dancer, exotic" Bravo, bravo I say.

Florida, curing cancer, one pair of Double Ds at time.
God bless.

After being in Florida for 2 months I can't say that I disagree- For someone who wanted to be on the east coast this is quite a culture shock-

Then you go to North Florida where it is just a bunch of red necks with big trucks, or ghetto fab with 100 spoke rims on the 86 oldsmobile filled with rust.

I went to high school/undegrad in No Fla and I hate to say it, but this is a pretty accurate statement!!

As a result, I'v been proposing for YEARS that Florida be divided up into North and South. South Florida is sooooooooo different and I love it there!!!

Well said - here's what we do - draw a line from about Tampa to Jacksonville, on a diagonal. South of that is New New York (aka yuppie Florida) and north of that we just give back to Alabama, since that's where they belong anyway. Then we annex Cuba so we can enjoy their cigars again, and we don't have to bother changing the flag.

Haha. My parents and well me part of the year live near tallahassee. I don't think it is a BAD place.....but it is kind of bizzarro world versus south. I feel I can usually trust the people in north florida more...things kind of go on island time but we've had repairmen and what actually call and say they are going to be 10 minutes late....and please don't turn north florida into alabama...When I drive through alabama is one of the few times I can say "well at least I don't live here" to myself. Although I do love being on the water where I live...that is nice.

Oh my gosh, the diagnoal line??  That's EXACTLY what needs to be done!!! I think No Fla better fits Mississippi in attitude, but I'm not sure how that would fit geographically!

does anyone know anything about Jacksonville's program? their weblink sent through eras doesn't work.😕
