Increase circulation, diminish infections, plump up the skin... 😕

At-home kit for $50?!?!

I can't imagine what it costs to get this done in office.

I realize people in every profession will try to exploit the public for money, but I really hate when it's people in medicine. It seems so much more offensive.

In other news, I really need a pedicure!!

Although it is BS imo and our colleagues are using this purely as a money making endeavor, I can't altogether blame them. It is not hurting anyone and if people feel it helps them, why not, I guess.

With decreases in reimbursements, we are always looking to find a way to use our skills to make additional income for the practice in an ethical way and one that doesn't harm the public.

I don't think I would do it myself, but at least it's not "cosmetic" foot surgery, which even though is fee for service, has the potential to really do harm imo.

I had a discussion with a friend and we both agreed that this procedure is being fairly marketed primarily as an aesthetic one. I don't see any reason to get upset over it. It would be one thing if there was some sort of claim that these "supplemen/herbals/creams" had curative properties (which could be illegal depending on how they are labeled). But they aren't. And I also don't think the claims made in the video are as embellished as the OP and other pre-pods seem to. The massage alone will "increase circulation".

I personally wouldn't be making all of the same claims but I have no problem with a DPM integrating foot and ankle health related services into their practice. I'm surprised Natch hasn't already opened up his own ski and snowboard boot fitting clinic in his office...😉

I'm not saying anything about the claims, just the crazy mark-up here for a "medical procedure." If I go into a doctor's office (be it a PCP, podiatrist, specialist, etc.), I am expecting to get a medical procedure and am perhaps willing to pay a premium for it. Marketing this as a medical procedure is wrong. Performing this may not be wrong, but displaying it as something that I couldn't get done for $30-50 by a nail technician at a mani/pedi place, but instead should get done by a medical professional, is to me dishonest and an abuse of knowledge/power.

And to address Kidsfeet, I agree that it's likely no one will be hurt by any of these procedures. I just don't like people thinking they have to go into a DOCTOR'S office to get something like this done. It's just sad to me to think of my mom or someone close to me going to see a podiatrist to get this done, paying $225, and thinking they got some unique medical treatment. Not so much.

I should clarify that I really don't mean to sound so confrontational, I just feel that doctors should use their powers for good. But I do get what you're saying about foot and ankle "wellness" or a sort of "holistic" treatment. And I concede that some people will feel physically better after this procedure, and will feel more comfortable getting this done under the supervision of a trained professional.

I'm new here, and I certainly don't want to start any fires, especially because I've seen it happen so many times on this/these forum(s). You guys have all helped so much in my decision to enter this career, and for that I am very grateful!

Agreed 100%. Well said.

I wasn't trying to condone it, but was trying to justify it somehow. You are absolutely right.
