I did the VCU program because I am familiar with Richmond having done my undergrad here (I am originally from CT though). I did the certificate program and now I am doing a second year (while I apply to med school) to get my Master's. The nice thing about that is that you don't really have to take any classes in that second year because you took all of them during the certificate year. So I basically do lab research - although I am taking one class just to keep the brain going - but it is optional.

Hey for anyone whose done the program..can you give a little more info on it. Did you like it? Is it a "good" program? Just general stuff about. Thanks.

You only take a few classes such as Physiology, Biochem, Cell Physiology and two electives along with a seminar each semester. You will have to work hard because it's A LOT of material, especially in physiology.
The faculty are awesome and really enjoy helping the students. Also, being in house as an applicant to the SOM, they'll know you (especially if you do well - 3.4 and higher) and be able to process you VERY quickly. I completed my app on Nov 3rd and was offered an interview slow a week later 🙂 . They LOVE their students because if you do decent in the certificate program, they know you'll do fine in med school.
Overall, I loved the program and thought it was a great way to boost your app. I've heard that a lot of the Penn schools (Drexel, Temple, etc) are very familiar with our program and like our students.
