I am about to start 2 years of informal post bac at my local state school as a non-matriculated student. Since I am not officially a student I don't qualify for health insurance with the school and I am about to get kicked off my parents HI since I am turning 22. Does anyone know of ways to get moderately to cheap priced health insurance without ridiculously high deductibles? I was thinking of just going without it but there's always those what ifs (car accident, etc) that make me too nervous to go without. Also, I don't qualify for HI through my work since I am part time/hourly. To any informal post bac students (or others!), what did you do for HI during that time you were in school? Thanks for your help! Em

You might want to double check with your school. My school does offer health insurance to anyone who is enrolled as a part-time student. It's not that expensive either, like $1,500 a year.

I recommend not doing COBRA. That thing is insane, like $400-$600 a month!

Also, depending on your age, I wonder if you might be able to still be covered under your parents health plan/s.

I'm personally going through Blue Shield which seems to have excellent coverage and plans. Yes, I know it's an additional plan but I have a huge fear of being w/o HI or having less than, you know? I'm getting both HI & dental for about $100.00 a month w/no deductible to meet and no maternity coverage but I'm cool with no maternity coverage. No plans for little ones ever.

Good luck!

Try BlueCross BlueShield. I had a personal policy all through college. It ran about $100/month and the deductible wasn't high.
