Hi, I live in California and I was wondering whether I need to retake my MCAT. I got 125 chem/phys, 131 CARS, 126 Bio, and 129 Psych/Soc. 511 total. I don't want to retake it, because the entire process was very taxing and draining, but I need opinions. I'm a biology major, and I'm taking an upper division organic chemistry class now as well, so would doing well in those make up for this a bit? My practice tests were around 127/128 in the sciences, so I don't know what happened.

Retaking a 511 (the equiv. of a 33) on the old exam, especially with sub-scores all over 125, would show poor decision making abilities. If you retook it, you risk getting lower the second time, which would really REALLY hurt you.

A 511 paired with a solid GPA will get you a lot of love. Apply to any DO school you want as well, if you can afford it.

Thanks for the reply! This definitely put me at ease. Just gonna apply with this and hope for the best.

What scores does it take to have a good shot at MD? If 511 (10-11 points above average) only gets me love from DO schools, does that mean we need to score like 516+ in order to have a shot at MD schools? What percentile is 511, 516? Where can I find this percentile info, it is not in the AAMC guidebook.

Who said a 511 only gets you love from DO schools?

And MSAR shows the average, 10th and 90th percentile MCAT for each MD school. So you could buy that.

I guess I misread your quote, I was really worried there for a second. Thank you for clarifying!
