I was curious whether students have jobs while in podiatry school. Is it a good idea? Is the coursework too much and the risk to sanity too great to have a job? By job I mean something part time, a few hours after class, few times a week.

It's possible, except maybe at Western. On campus jobs in the library or as a gym attendant (if it's available) are best because you can study at work if you need to. With any job you pretty much have to be able to write your own schedule weekly. There are weeks where you could work 15 hours and others where you won't be able to work at all. If you don't have that kind of flexibility with your employer, you'll be in trouble.

I dont recommend it. You will never have time for yourself. Any free time you have will be spent working. School is stressful enough. For a few bucks, why make it more?

Real jobs (meaning not on-campus school jobs) are not worth the hit that your grades will inevitably take. Your only job should be to study; any remaining time should go to your family or already very limited personal life.

research is another great way to make good money. Some schools offer a lot of money for research. I know Barry and NYCPM are big on research. They also have really nice scholarships that you can win if your research gets published.

Awesome. I am very interested in research. Has anyone been involved in research in pod school or during residency? How was it like?
