First time poster, long time reader. I was on the SIR website and it listed 2 IR residency tracts that were available. One was the more tradtional tract of DR followed by IR fellowship training, but the other was a combined tract of DR and IR from the getgo. SIR listed 5 residency programs for the tradtional tract, but mentioned none for the combined tract (plus said it was a pilot program that was brand new). Does anyone have any further info on this? Also, do the 5 (or so) programs listed on SIR participate in the regular match process? Any other info concerning IR would be greatly appreciated! 👍

You can pursue an IR fellowship after ANY diagnostic rads residency.

The 5 that you saw were probably the fast-tracks... some programs (e.g. UVa) offer a separate match for a 5 year program with an IR emphasis.

There is speculation that IRs will eventually have their own separate residencies (a la Rad Onc), but this is not yet available.
