hey everyone, i've got a little bit of a situation here and i was wondering if any of you as post-bacc pre-meds have had a similar problem.

i just got a job offer at a pretty prestigious research center which i was plannning to work at for a year before i entered any post-bacc/master's program. the problem is my prospective boss says he needs me to stay for 1.5-2 years and i don't think i'm going to be there any longer than a year. a year and a half is not too bad but its still a long time for me..... i'm already in my mid 20s so time is of the essence and i'm not trying to waste any more time in pursuing medicine. what would you guys recommend? i don't want to give up a really impressive research opportunity but i also don't want to burn any bridges. people that i have personally consulted have told me to just take the job and that people leave pretty fast from research assistant positions anyways but i just don't know that its fair for me to do that.

any suggestions here?

I would take the job. I was up front at my current position regarding my intention to leave and I ended up staying a bit longer than originally intended. I know I could have moved up substantially in the company both in responsibility and pay had I not made my intentions clear.

Bottom line, you don't really know where you will be in a year and your situation might drastically change. I would take the position now.

this is exactly what i've been hearing from my friends/family about this situation. thanks!
