Just curious, to the residents out there, where do you forsee yourself deriving most of your personal satisfaction once out of residency? Lifestyle/time w/family, income, practice of rads itself (specifically:intellectual stimulation/physician-physician interaction/patient care), or the overall ability to lead a balanced life? How much do you think your professional life will contribute to your overall satisfaction? Lastly, how much if any meaningful patient contact have you had during your rads years? Sorry for all the questions ahead of time.

Lifestyle/time w/family, income, practice of rads itself (specifically:intellectual stimulation/physician-physician interaction/patient care), overall ability to lead a balanced life. Patient contact way overrated. If you want it its there

Patient contact is completely over-rated. Once you get away from all that Med. School propaganda, you realize what a pathological situation the doctor-patient relationship is.

For me the important things are:
1. Leading a balanced life
2. Being fairly compensated for my work
3. Being able to tolerate my job
4. Not being miserable during my residency because it does not get better and it is not worth the investment.
