Last Minute Advice Needed On Increasing My Chances For The Match

if anyone has any advice for my situation, id appreciate it more than anything:


im applying for rads. one of the places where i interviewed is where i rotated for a month. from my understanding, the rotation went well. got a good eval and a nice lor from the chairman. honestly, im going to rank that program # 1. when i finished my rotation, i expressed my dire interest in coming there to the pd and the chairman. knowing them well by now, they were very sympathetic yet diplomatic. they told me that i would definitely get "considered" and ranked. aside to writing nice thank you cards, is there anything else i could do to increase my chances at this point? i read a lot on these forums about placing a phone call right around rol submitting time...but im reluctant knowing that could kill the situation if i catch the pd or chairman at a busy time or in a bad mood. what's your all take on this?

leave it alone. hard as it is to do, youve done most everything you can. Their list is probably done by now anyway. I think lots of people (like...me!) are pretty anxious right now. But we've pretty much done what we can at this point and have to let the chips fall as they may.

Nope, definitely do not call anybody. It will only annoy them. I have linked you a thread in the rads forum, plus, Iserson's Getting into residency book strongly suggests that you don't call anyone either. It sounds like you have a decent shot of matching where you'd like. I'd just rank them number one if that's where you really want to go, and let the cards fall where they fall.

thanks for the advice guys. really appreciate it. i got to know two of the residents there pretty well and i e-mail them regularly. i popped the same question to them recently. so, im curious as to what they'll say. as to now, im just staying put and keeping my fingers crossed. thanks again!

definitely do not show up at their house and kill their rabbits and make them into stew. no matter how good the stew is, they will still think you are crazy. just ask kungfu.

actually, everyone's advice has been good. as hard as it is to do, you gotta let it ride sometimes. 🙂
