Hi, just wondering if anyone has applied to l'Universite de Montreal? It's the only optometry school I know of that I havn't heard anyone on this forum apply to. I applied there not too long ago. Anyone else?

That's because hardly anyone outside Quebec or Ottawa can speak French fluently enough to go there!!!! Also, don't they only accept approx. 30 students? I bet not a lot of people even know about it...

All examinations are done in french and so are the clinics. However, many or most of the textbooks are done in english. so it makes it weird. though the students are really proficient in their clinical skills, many try to go to the states to work because the scope of optometry is more walmart, greiche and scaff, its all commercialized and the income is a lot lower than the other provinces. start w 60K.

of course they take 30 pre-opt students from cegep like premed that only quebec has. i think there are less than 30 from everywhere else.

you must speak french fluently, but they do give allo/anglophones one year to brush up and pass the language test....but unless you want to stay in qc i dont see why you want to learn it in french...well unless you are absolutely bilingual....apparently there are ppl from the us and elsewhere in canada who go there 🙂 but i dont think you can really be too chummy with your other quebecois classmates bc even if you learn the standard french you will never understand us.... apparently the trick is to get a quebecois bf/gf

Hey
I applied to UdeM this year (although I consider it a real long shot). I am from BC originally but moved to Quebec last summer. My French is coming along but I think probably not fast enough! I will write my TFI next week (test of french comprehension) and need to pass just to be eligible for an interview.

In response to the last post... I have a french girlfried... step one accomplished!
