quick question..if we don't pick up our match envelope...how do we find out where we got in...do they also email us at noon on match day?

good luck guys!

We don't find out where we match on Match Day (a Monday), only if we did. We find out where we matched on Thursday. Anyway, if you can't wait, you can check the NRMP website on Monday (noon, I think), and I think I heard that they send us an e-mail as well. Can someone clarify that?

So if the 18th is not called match day, what do you call it? I thought Monday was sometimes called "unmatch day" :-}

dharmabum,

You can find out after 12:00 on the NRMP website on "match Day". Though the official day is Monday (as unnecessarily pointed out above), Match Day is on Thursday for anyone who gives a damn, and the NRMP website will have your information.

As stated on NRMP site:

March 15, 2004 - Matched and unmatched information on applicants posted to the website at 12:00 noon eastern time.

March 16, 2004 - Filled and unfilled results for individual programs posted to the website at 11:30 am eastern time. Locations of all unfilled positions are released at 12:00 noon eastern time. Unmatched applicants may begin contacting unfilled programs at 12:00 noon eastern time.

March 18, 2004 - Match results for applicants are posted to website at 1:00 pm eastern time.

Maybe I'm being overly sensitive about the use of "unnecessarily" above, but I like to be specific/accurate. I pointed out that March 15th (the Ides of March, BTW) is Match Day. That Monday we find out IF we matched. The 18th is the day we find out where. The 18th is almost an anticlimax, especially if you did match, because that's the important part. So to say the 18th is THE DAY "for anyone who gives a damn," I disagree.

thanks guys, so the answer to my orignal question is that we can find out by thurs (march 18th aka match day) starting after 12pm or 1pm on the nrmp website 🙂

good luck guys!!!

Actually, that kind of depends on your situation. In my case, where I match is not insignificant, because I am trying to follow a spouse who does not have the option of moving. If I don't get one of my top 2 choices, I will really hate my life, because I will be separated from my spouse for another 2 years. Not appealing.

Just my 2 cents.

actually once you find out you matched on monday, you'll want to know where. you'll feel relief and then of course immediately want thursday to come. the truth is that the majority of residents do match -- the question is where. and for that, you have to wait until thursday. so i disagree, thursday is much more exciting or anxiety provoking for most people

I completely disagree. Match day is the best and worst. It is so nerve racking. Yes, you find out a day or two early IF you match. However, for most people they will match.
The big question is always "Where?" So, unless you only ranked one or two problems, there is a big question on that day. Waiting for your envelope is very nerve racking.

I was in a state of shock when I opened mine and got my first choice. So happy. Nothing beats that.

All technical definitions aside, I have never once heard anyone refer to that Monday as "Match Day". Match Day to everyone I have ever met who has been involved with the match (including the realtors who sell houses in the neighborhoods near the hospital) is the Thursday when everyone finds out where they are going.

DW,

I didn't mean to offend, and of course may not have interpreted other peoples concerns about the match accurately.

I'll be a little nervous on Monday, and freebasing Nexium on Thursday.
