I noticed a distinct lack of anything Manchester related on this forum (ok, there is basically nothing!), so I wanted to start a thread and see who is going to be attending MCPHS Manchester in the fall. I am getting a little creeped out by Manchester's seeming non-existence... I'm not the only person in the whole entire class, am I? 😉

Anyone else out there who is going to MCPHS Manchester in the fall, drop a line and say hey!

I totally agree that there is barely anything related to MCPHS-Manchester on this forum and I'm glad you started this one. You're not the only person in the whole entire class, but maybe we are the only two people in the whole entire class. 😛

Hi, I'm starting MCPHS-Manchester in the fall also. Nice to meet you. 🙂

Yup, I think we might be the only ones... 🙂

Nice to meet you too! Have you gotten a schedule for orientation? I thought we were going to get one in the mail, but I don't know. I am a little confused about what is taking place those two days... I guess we have to go to Worcester for the "White Coat Ceremony". Any idea what that entails?

Yeah, actually, I'm really confused about it too. They said it'd be posted on the internet by the 10th of July and I checked a couple days ago and they only have Boston's schedule on there. And the list of things they want you to bring seems like a slumber party... I don't think we're doing that. Something about being bussed back and forth to and from Worcester. Professional clothes + Long bus ride = Not fun + Many wrinkles. Hm.

The date is coming closer and I'm starting to get worried about it. I may email them if I don't hear anything soon. I just know you have to wear professional-type clothing on both days or something. And I think we're just going to get our "white coats" during the ceremony (which we will have to wear everyday on campus and for the rest of our lives).

I'm nervous!

Welcome! Hehe together we make up almost 10 percent of the class! 😉

Yaaay, we have a third!

Do both of you have living arrangements already?

I am living in Nashua, NH. It's about 30 minutes south of Manchester. My wife is working outside of Boston so we had to split the difference. What about you guys? Is everyone from MA/NH?

I'm from CA and I currently have no permanent place to stay. 🙁

I am living about 200 feet from the school ironically, I found a roommate on craiglist and his gf is in our class, so that will be cool in respect to studying. I am originally from Maine

Have you guys checked out the orientation schedule yet? The link is posted on Mcphs's homepage. Thursday... ugh. I am wondering if the actual bus ride to Worcester is mandatory, or if it's just mandatory to attend the white coat ceremony. I live half an hour south of Manchester, so it makes zero sense for me to ride a bus to and fro.

Doesn't seem to give us much time to eat dinner or change into those professional clothes either.

Oh well that's makes 4 ! I'm coming from Tx and will live in manchester at least for the next year...I just saw the orientation schedule. It sucks we have to ride in a bus for the first day! See you guys there.

Do you think that means we have to dress professional all day? 'Cuz that would be uncomfortable... and wrinkly by the time for the white coat ceremony. 🙁

I emailed the people in charge to inquire about a few things...

The bus ride is not mandatory, but you have to make sure you pick up the white coat from them before leaving Manchester, and actually attending the ceremony is mandatory. And they said that some people dress professionally all day, but some who live close run home to change and make it back in time for the bus and some bring a change of clothes. So I guess it's each individual's call.

Family, etc, are welcome at the ceremony... yay!

Oh and they said that they schedule for 2.5 hours from when orientation ends until the ceremony starts, so we can consider that in making plans.

Don't go the MCPHS-Manchester. It's a rip off. You don't have a real professor teaching you. They'll teach you via a big screen TV. The professor s are from Worcester campus giving lecture. You'll be in Manchester watching them like taking an online course. I went to Worcester campus and we used to feel sorry for people who got accepted to Manchester campus. It's a big rip off. Stay away... go to other school if you can. Good luck!

Message from Worcester students:

Mididoddi's class today? Honestly? What's your problem?

Yeah, I agree. I am in Manchester and thought that people's comments were really inappropriate. Dr. Mididoddi is right; this is a professional program and people should keep that in mind.

I have a feeling that we're never going to hear the end of it at the next Dean's Forum, since all he seems to want to talk about is professionalism...

I am looking to apply at Manchester campus. Which do you think Worcester vs Manchester is easier to get accepted. What kind of GPA do you have and do you have a BS degree.

I have a BS degree, but some people in the class didn't graduate from college. They just took all the necessary pre-reqs and got enough credits. The GPA overall of accepted students was probably around 3.5, from what I've heard.

As for easier to get into, we are technically the same class in two different locations, so that is hard to say. Worcester has more available slots (right now the ratio is 167 to 55) but for all I know they interview three times the people. Acceptance rates for my class out of total interviewed number was 1 out of 13.

And just FYI, if you are looking for easy, this is not the program for you. It is accelerated and very intense. Definitely doable, but not easy.

I figured I would poast a note here for any student that is interviewing or accepted into Manchester MCPHS class of 2012, Ill be on break for a month and will be able to answer some questions if you have some... enjoy your break and your free time now, the program is doable, no need to be scared BUT take it seriously. If you put in an honest effort, I think for the most part you will be fine. In Manchester (at least so far) we have lost 1 student and the student left for non-academic reasons from what I have heard

I sent my supplemental application to MCPHS Manchester early November. PharmCas did not forward my application until the end of Novemeber. I received a letter from MCP advising me to take the TOEFL and I did schedule it as soon as I got the letter (I passed with a high score). I met with an admission officer who advised me to repeat classes that expired and I repeated 4 courses and got all As. I have a Masters degree with a 3.7 GPA and I've been working at a hospital pharmacy for over 10 yrs!! I even train pharmacists at making sterile products. My undergraduate record in Biology is not great but my grades did improve significantly after the first two years.. Today I received a rejection letter sadly enough and I feel devastated. There were no explanations as to why I did not make it into the program.. :'(

I am really sorry to hear that... Don't give up! I know you wanted to get in this year but reapply again next year and if pharmacy is really want you want to do, maybe also apply to a few other accelerated programs just in case. Your GPA is good, and I know that there are people that have been accepted with a lower GPA, I had a 3.8 in my required classes. what i have been told is that there has been more interest the past few years and it is now getting tougher to get in, remember there are only about 50 slots in Manchester and about 170ish in Worcester, I dont know the exact number of acceptance to rejections, I heard as low as 1 out of 14 got in and I have heard as high as 1 out of 32

Hi everyone. I'm going to be attending this fall as well. Looking forward to meeting all of you.

look forward to seeing you there in the Fall, let us know if you have any questions, a private message is better for me if you have questions so I get a notice I have mail, don't always have a chance to get on here to look to see the forumn

Hey all!

Just received my acceptance packet in the mail today. After I (hopefully) get a little more insight from current students, I'll probably be ready to take the plunge!

Maybe I'll see some of you this fall!
