So how did everyone's ballot issues do? Here in Nevada the doctor backed issue won. This will give us a malpractice cap and stepped lawyer fees like California. The two lawyer backed issues lost. One would have made it impossible to limit fees and the other would have "fixed" the med mal insurance problem by artificially forcing the insurance companies to lower rates even if it caused them to leave the state. All in all it was a good election in NV for docs.

Amendment 8 also passed. This one is a "three strikes and your out" rule taking away the licenses of doctors with three malpractice judgements against them.

Holy Cow! That 3 strike one passed? That's terrible! I heard about that one from a friend who's in gas down there. My take is that that'll force every one to settle every case to avoid going to trial. I'd bail on that state in a hurry. :scared:

Anyone know how the 3 strikes you're out will affect residents. Say you're a resident in Ob/gyn (everyone likes to sue them), and you lose 3 malpractice cases as a resident, do you get your license taken away. Thanks if anyone knows the answer to this.

Wow...

Florida really got sold a bill of goods. I hope they're prepared for the hemorrhage of physicians.

What happens to doctors who already have more than 3 lawsuits? Many doctors in Florida have already notified the hospitals they will be leaving Florida because they do not want to risk their careers.

I am applying for residency this year and live in Florida, but now I am aiming for a different state for residency.
