I am thinking about doing some basic science melanoma research that will result in a first author pub. if I spend about a year with my PI. I like the PI and the lab...but the research is on chemotherapy relating to melenoma. Furthermore, it is a lab in the oncology department.

How would the derm. residency directors see this? Would it be better to pursue something in the derm department instead?
