Hi -
I'm at MS as a student interested in Neurology. I was president of SIGN for the past two years and have been involved in the neurology department.
Our department is small and is mostly clinical. there is some research being done, but not on a large scale. One professor worked extensively with a genetics counselor and has files for family trees from all over the state for MJD and various ataxias - really interesting. We have a neuro-ICU and electrophysiology unit. THe faculty are nice and helpful.
UMC has a prelim year that is attached (I think), and they usually accept 3-4 interns / year.
Jackson is a good place to live. It's not a big city, but there is still a wealth of activiites to explore. We have a symphony, several large malls, a reservoir for boating/fishing etc.. and much more. Let me know if you ahve more specific questions.
