Hi Everyone,

Quick question. Do all MSK radiology fellowships teach spinal procedures? See the below link. One of my interests would be in running an MSK clinic/Radiology practice in the future.

don't Fellowship specialized Anesthesiologists and Physiatrists do this already?

Well, the link seems to indicate that these procedures are being done by MSK trained radiologists, although I too thought these were typically done by pain fellowship trained PM&R or anesthesiology.

If you want to run an MSK clinic, are you sure you want to do radiology??? Looks like you have a PT background, so I might already know your answer 😀.

University of Wisconsin's MSK fellowship is very procedure heavy, especially spine procedures. This includes epidurals, nerve root blocks, vertebroplasties, discograms, and various bone biopsies/ joint aspirations.

I think they've been doing it for some time- along with anesthesia. However, typically the physical exam skill-set of these varies amongst the specialties. ALso I would imagine the radiologist will also all the intervention procedures that may not be so much muskuloskeletally related ie biopsies, ivp, other contrast studies, joint arthrograms etc. There is no real diliniation amounst the specialties of who should do the msk interventional - evryone does them. I don't think there's any sort of ownership to a turf either. We can share- there are plenty of patients. Do the prerequisite residency that most interests you then fellowship- evryone arrive at the gate with something different to offer.

Does anyone know of another heavily procedure based MSK fellowship? I have been looking online for a comprehensive listing of MSK fellowships but I can't find any... any help would be appreciated.
