neuro rehab

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hello

how helpful is neuro rehab subspeciality in real practice? didn't find any info @ this subspeciality.

Its very helpful if you work in a rehab hospital, its correlate is a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) fellowship out of a PM&R residency. Its a rapidly evolving field, I know at The Kessler East Rehab hospital, the director of TBI is a neurologist (one of the few non-physiatrists on staff).

I did a rotation there, the basic thrust was trying to tailor phamacotherapy to particular brain dyfunction.

hope that helps.

would you choose neurology over PMR? i am confused or rather i like both of these specialities.
thanks

I had the same dilema...I chose neuro.

Basically in pm&r the only thing I was really interested in was
TBI. I realized that neuro had the equivalent specialty with neuro rehab, and as well much much more fellowship options.

I actually did an subI in PM&R and really liked it, but in the end, I really do enjoy more acute care work.

Both are great fields.

ps. there are combined programs out there

hello again
i did not find any combined programs. could you tell me few ones??
thanks

This is a link to a PDF from the ABPMR which has info about all combined PMR programs, including PMR/Neuro (page 13).

I visited the websites of the three above schools, and I can't find anything about combined PM&R/NEURO programs.....you might want to contact them. In the document from the ABPMR it describes how you can set up your own dual program, but I am not sure how feasible that is..... I hope this helps some.

Currently, there are no combined PM&R/neuro programs. UIC has not had a PM&R residency for years.
