I just wanted to share some interesting news I read today in the California Optometry Magazine. This is what the article says:
New Optometry School Names Dean
The Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU) in Pomona, CA, has elected Elizabeth Hoppe, OD, MPH, DrPH as founding dean for the College of Optometric Medicine, which the University anticipates opening in 2009.
Dr. Hoppe will join WesternU from the New England College of Optometry, where she is currently the associate dean of academic affairs. Prior to her position there, she was a faculty member at the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO) from 1990 to 2003, achieving the rank of tenured professor. Dr. Hoppe was also the first woman chosen as editor of the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry's peer reviewed journal Optometric Education, and is also the first woman in optometry to hold the DrPH, which - to date - is still only held by a small percentage of women.
