number of transitional and prelim programs

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
how many transitional and prelim programs should i apply to? 10? 15? more?

The ERAS fee is different for transitional years and prelims.

If you're going to apply to both, the $120 ($60 for each) will cover 10 transitionals and 10 prelims. That's really more than enough IMHO.

No intention of derailing your thread but is it possible to not match derm but match your trans/IM/surg year and thus not know that you haven't matched derm till you open up your envelope on match day? Stupid question I know but I just heard today (albeit from a sketchy source) that this could be possible.

No, your match email will indicate if you've matched solely into a 1-yr program.

Just out of curiosity, is that true even if you rank prelim years after derm programs on your main match list?

Yes. If you do not rank prelim years on your main match list and fail to match into derm, you will not match into anything. (Unless you have some other backup underneath your advanced derm positions)

Remember the list attached to your advanced programs is a supplemental list and won't be used until you match into an advanced program.
