Are pathologists given annual salaries (for, say, hospitals) or are they reimbursed per procedure?

LADoc00 said:You guessed it. Yeah, basically everytime I read a GI biopsy, the gastroenterologist tosses me a wadded up 20 dollar bill, sometimes he tips but not usually. The cheap bastard!
I get a little more love from the heme crew, say a Ben Franklin note and if I read a few immunostains, they put a Abe Lincoln in the waistband of my scrubs as a tip.

Can you please go into details as to how pathologists are compensated and whether or not it depends on if the pathologist works at a hospital or private practice (if there is such a thing in path)?
Thanks in advance
