Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship 2020 Cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Apparently no. Good news is there‘ll be plenty of jobs!

Anecdotally that does actually appear to be true, pedi jobs are more abundant this year for fellows than the last 5, easily. So it looks like the projections of oversupply seem to have helped stifle it, along with many large private groups continuing to start/enlarge pediatric call pools.

Hey all, here is a link to a previous thread talking about the Pedi Anesthesia match:

I would argue against the sentiment that there are enough pure pedi jobs out there currently. But then again, I think a lot of people going for Pedi Fellowships these days are surpsingly ok with 50/50 jobs. For me I want 100% Peds so I had a defierent mentality. So maybe the mentaility has also adjusted to fit the market?

If you have a pulse you will match. So have fun and don't let any programs dick you around!

There are a significant number of fellows who don’t want to give up adult anesthesia and seek out combined jobs.
They don’t even interview at any children’s hospitals. I don’t think I would have done the fellowship if I didn’t want to focus solely on peds anesthesia.
YMMV

Yeah our group is looking to hire a pediatric fellowship anesthesiologist. So I believe the job market is good. If interested PM me.

It seems like a few programs are still requiring the SPA supplement questions in place of the personal statement? Super annoying when ONE of the 8 programs I am looking at wants them. BOOO at extra hoops!

Is it too late to start applying? I’m currently on peds rotation as a CA2 and just dawned on me that I’d want my future too look more peds than not

Def not too late.
Programs realize that some CA2s have their peds rotations late. Interviews continue into August / even early September, and some programs tend to save some interview slots for later applicants (though get the app in ASAP obviously).

No, I'm waiting on those as well as Texas. Have heard from CHOP, Seattle, Denver, and Boston Children's.
Have heard from Texas, but still waiting on the CHLA/Stanford. I wonder if more of the West coast programs will be turning to remote interviews due to COVID-19.
