Can someone point me to a webpage or something that explains what PGY1, PGY2, categorical residency, prelim year and all that kinda stuff is all about? I'm just curious.

Don't know of any website. PGY just means postgraduate year (i.e. after medschool), so a PGY 1 is just an intern, PGY 2 is a 2nd yr resident, etc. Categorical just means a resident that is scheduled to complete the training necessary to become certified by the american college of whatever specialty (ie sit for the boards) while prelims are just completing a set number of years prior to entering their desired field (i.e surg subspecialties do a year of general surgery before starting ortho, urology, ent, etc). I know this is explained somewhat in the surg forum under Q & A. It can be confusing.....hope this helps some.
