Yes, sadly. Many plastic surgery websites specifically advertise "IV sedation only" for augmentations. A lot of them hire their own CRNA that they (the plastic surgeon) then "supervises" themselves. I believe that was the scenario a couple years ago when that 18 year old girl was left un-monitored after some kind of local infiltration and was found grey and pulseless when they returned to her room.

Ego, tunnel-vision, inadequate crisis training, and plain old denial / minimalization... their brains reject the clear reality of the situation because the truth is too painful to face. And our perception of time can be extremely distorted in a crisis situation.
