Playing guitar in this specialty

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I’ve been trying to buy my first strat for like 2 years now. So many options. I do want to explore single coils a bit more.

I play through a dual rectifier and a diezel vh4…. but lately been running them through a torpedo x amp loader and sending that signal to studio speakers. Tubes are hot in the amps and I’m not blowing out my ears lol…and amp tones are def there at lower volumes. My marshal and mesa cabs are not getting much love now days, but they are nice to look at. 🥰
There are way too many strats in this world and therefore too many options; but it makes finding a used one on Craigslist or FB marketplace for a great price easy. Find out if you want rosewood or maple fingerboard and want kind of neck size/profile/radius you want and you will narrow it down considerably. Ideally try before you buy. Also since its the most copied design don’t be afraid to look for non Fender alternatives. You can spend $500 or $50000 for a vintage one and everything in between: but they will all sound like a strat

Blow my mind the amount non-collectors will spend on a strat when they could get a (imo) superior Ibanez S series and aftermarket custom pickups for half the price.

Ayy….. you’re a jammer? 👊🏽

Ibenez quality and lines are awesome.
I’ve almost pulled the trigger on the Satriani signature a few times (hss). He’s def. one of my hero’s from the 80’s-00’s. I have a hard time with ibenez necks unless it’s a super wizard neck.

Been eying this guy hard.
It has a lot of versatility… not exactly single coil, but I am sure gilmore can come out in this setup.

Got a Suhr Rasmus which was their import line. Great bang for the buck. Made in China but with the same pickups and hardware as the US made guitars. Pleked and setup in their California factory. It didn’t last long since it was a bad business decision. They weren’t happy with the QC in China.

Trying to deflect some of the hot threads from earlier today @Twiggidy @propadope

So I spent a few hours playing some strats, teles, jacksons, ibenez and PRS today through a 5150 full stack at guitar center. 2k range…. nothing super fancy and no jaguars to be had.

My conclusion is… it’s going to be damn hard to get me to play anything else but my LP… lol…. if it just weighed 7 lbs. it would be perfect…. Still stuck.

Couple of porn pix of my baby.

This was almost brand new when I picked her up 30+ years ago. One of my favorite parts is what I have done to the back of the neck over the years. I am down to bare wood across most of the neck. 🥰🥰

How much does it weigh? Ive heard of some 70s LPs that are 10+ pounds. That thing is worn like an old pair of jeans. You’ll need a used guitar with lots of mileage or a relic to come close to that feel. I love the feel of a worn neck with fingerboard edges that are rolled

It’s actually a ‘79.

I bet it’s closer to 12 lbs.
I def. feel it after a 2-3 hr session when standing.

I like the Les Paul, but it is heavy. Wasn’t really a big fan of Stratocasters.

I’ve always thought the Peavey EVH Wolfgang with a Drop-D tuna was fantastic. I recall the employee of the music shop being reluctant to hand it to me.
They knew I wasn’t going to buy anything….I just went to play. Four music shops on the same road near my old man’s office. So I went all the time when it wasn’t my sport season.

I bought a PRS in high school. Financed 75% of it through my dad and paid it off doing yard work for a little less than a year. A while after I paid it off, I had it taken away for a week as a form of being grounded. 😒

Still have it. Hasn’t seen electricity in YEARS.

Maybe I’ll take it on the back deck and shred. If I don’t get a letter from the HOA, it’s not loud enough….

Here’s the back of my strat. Mine is not honest wear, I ordered it like that BUT it feels sooo good. I filed some of the fret sprout (it gets dry and cold in the winter), rounded the fret ends more and rolled the fingerboard edges more by compressing the wood with the shaft of a screwdriver. Its very comfortable to wrap my hand around.
