Hello,

I have a friend who has about 1 year left of college before she gets a BS in Psyc. Lately she has been considering medicine or allied professional health field. Does anyone know if there is any good premedical programs around Chicago? Also, is there any combined degree programs? Ex. BS/MD or something.

Thank you for your help 👍

I think BS/MD programs are only for entering undergrads. Your friend can do a formal postbac program with linkages or consortium agreements instead.

I recently interviewed with someone who went to DePaul for her premed postbac, but that's all I know about the Chicago area.

Maybe "there is" some English grammar schools out there as well.

What are the schools that have a premed postbac? I am guessing that she probably would need a Bac degree first before entering such a program?

Also, is there any accelerated premed programs that grants a Bac with in a year or so to 3rd or 4th year students?

Thank You 👍

Sorry, just to clarify--your friend has a year of college left, so she will earn her BS (or "bac") in Psych, right? If so, she can apply now to any of the dozens of post-baccalaureate premedical programs. She just needs her bachelor's by the time she enters the program. If she wants another "Bac" in premed or Bio, her best bet is probably to stay an extra year at her undergrad school and do it as Bio/Psych double major. Most of these post-bac programs give you a postbac premed certificate, but no extra degree. Fulfilling these premed prereqs is all you need to apply to med school, though. She won't need a premed degree in order to do so.

There is an entire list of postbac premed programs on the AAMC website, just do a search. However, the most popular and well-known around these boards are at Bryn Mawr, Hopkins, Penn, Harvard Extension, Columbia, Scripps, Goucher, Brandeis, Rutgers, and so on.
