Hey everyone, first time poster on SDN. Just wanted to get some opinions on programs and how my rank list is looking. Strongly interested in IR. Family is in the DC area, but most of these programs are a decent distance so that's not a huge concern. Would be happy in any nice place to live where there are things to do, not just big cities. I really liked all of these programs when I visited, which is making it hard to decide where to place them.

UVA
MUSC
MCW
Emory
Colorado
UPMC
UMD
Georgetown

In my humble opinion, Emory and UPMC did not seem like the places where residents get a lot of hands-on IR experience. You will probably be able to match at a good IR fellowship from those places, though

UVA, Emory, and UPMC are the best of the list. If you're strongly interested in IR, edge might go to UVA.

Are any you able find out at any of these places if you will be able to transfer internally into an IR residency? I'm not sure if they're able to commit to that yet. But if so that would make things more like Emory>UVA>UPMC.

Can't speak for Emory, but I know when I was at UPMC they firmly admitted their IR was their weakest section and they were "working to make it better." The way the residents talked about it seemed like it was "okay" but certainly UPMC is much stronger in other areas.

UVA holds a high reputation for IR on the forums, but AM has a whole thread debating on whether their program is malignant or not.

As far as switching into IR from DR....that whole thing is a mess to try to figure out.

UVA is a better training program than Emory and UPMC.

doubtful, but they do have a great intro to rads online tutorial.

I don't have any relation to UVA.

UVA: One of the best IR programs.
One of the best MSK programs at least in east coast.
Excellent mammo department.

UPMC: Excellent mammo department. No other top notch department.

Emory: Excellent IR program.

You are not going wrong with any of them but UVA has an edge over other two programs.
