Research Year

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Looking to find a research year in derm, any programs out there? Any supervisors?
Dude, you've started like 4 threads on this topic all in the last month. Seriously, get a grip. You've been given really good advice, and not to be mean, but you need to be a little proactive yourself, instead of being expected for it to be all handed to you on a silver platter.

Also, like you were told before, it's best to do a derm research year after M3 once you know where you rank in your class, what your board scores are, and if you'll be nominated for AOA. I'm assuming you're doing this bc don't have a Derm dept at your school?

lol! btw OP is an MS2 for the record 🙂
Yes, I'm well aware of that. We had this same discussion on one of his other threads he started on this same topic and being told that it was best he do research once a lot more of his track record is established. See above.

I know. All the more reason he should stop freaking out bc he should be nowhere close to making that decision right now. It's a lot different making the choice to do a year of research when your M2 grades, board scores, and clerkships grades aren't back, then to do it once you have all those things in, and then want to do a year of research.

that, and he will have hopefully done a derm elective rotation and enjoyed it.

Depends. Many people participate in research early on: Summer after M1, writing up stuff during M1/M2 and maybe even in M3 although less so, so they've established an interest without having to do a clinical elective. A lot of times Derm comes in and teaches M2 s how to do a skin clinical exam and brings in patients for all medical students to evaluate and be able to give descriptions of skin lesions. I believe UPenn's derm (could be wrong on the program) dept. does this.

So they take off a year from one academic year to the next, and then actually do a few months of their first audition electives when they come back to start M4.
