Not exactly sure if this is the right place to stick this, but my friend and I have decided to make this coming week Scholarship Week, in which all of our spare energy is devoted to applying to scholarships. Big ones. Small ones. Essays. Tests. Surveys. Multiple-choice questions. Anything and everything available!

So... I challenge all you people out there who are trying to choose between Fancy Pants Liberal Arts College and Significantly Cheaper State University--make this week the week that you go all out. Apply like it's going out of style. Make it a contest to see who can apply for the most scholarships. Deadlines are usually in Feb/March, so we all need to get our rears in gear and start applying!

Sunday to Sunday. Ready... Set... Go!

I only applied one college in the U.S.

ok, i have a couple of essays i could work on. What scholarship sites do you use? i know about fastweb and scholarships.com, any others?

I mostly use FastWeb, and but I'm counting more on some local scholarships. Less competition!

check your school's career center; they usually have local scholarships or school ones where it is easier to win than the national scholarships because you're competing with a smaller crowd.
good luck!

Career center?

Wow. Every day, I realize just how poor our school really is. 😛

hahhaa, i guess i should appreciate my school more... we live in one of the richest counties in the U.S. and every week they have new scholarships and representives from different colleges to come and talk to seniors.

if you do science fair projects & would like to use them in your scholarship process, you should look up the "Davidson Fellows Scholarship"-- there are thirty potential winners & prizes range from 10k to 25k to 50k.

i, sadly, am 2 months and 17 days older than the eligible age requirements so cannot apply :-( ...but if you're under 18 by october of 2009, i strongly reccommend that you apply, the prizes are great and you have nothing to lose (get all the credits your deserve after all your laborous hours on those science fair projects 😉)

My school has a "Career Center" too... But it's really just a box on a desk filled with scholarship applications. XD

I think my school's pretty fortunate, though. The teachers tells about local scholarships all of the time (especially during seniors meetings), and they're always on the announcements.

Lol. No, we don't have a science fair, either. Thanks for the tip though!

I was wondering the same thing, actually. What, do they pull the whole senior class down to the... wherever? What do they talk about?

there were certain days where we get to skip our english class to go down to the library. there, we split into groups or go to our specific counselor, and the counselors basically explained the whole scholarship jazz, the process to applying to college, etc.

and then if youre more interested, just go to the career center and each week there are different scholarships that they have in files, and you can take some to fill out.... and if you're lucky, you win them! 🙂

I love how you say counselors. As in, more than one. 😀

That's really nice, though, that they do that for you guys. A lot of things about the application process are confusing, and scholarships just aren't pushed enough.

Yeah, the high schools I've been to do something similar for the entire senior class.

And some of the schools I went to had advisory periods every three weeks or so, though they were catered more towards students in magnet programs.
