Scholl Students: Is Waukegan a safe place to live in??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Im thinking of moving to Waukegan, about 20 min north of school?
Is this the ghetto? Ive never been to this area before :scared::scared:

Well if i were you i would never move to Waukegan. Not all of waukegan is Ghetto but some parts are really crazy. I would stay for first year in some good neighborhood and in the mean time know the other neighborhoods and then move to it. Yeah avoid Waukegan, Zion, Racine, parts of Round Lake beach and Mundelien.

Are you looking to live close to campus or stay about 20 min away? I live in The Woodlands and it's very nice-you are able to walk to school and to the clinics. But, if you are looking to live a little further away, I would look into Gurnee or even Lake Bluff (which can be a tad more expensive). I have friends that live in AMLI in Gurnee and they seem to like it and be reasonably priced. If you have any more questions feel free to send me a message!

Yaa i agree with you. Woodlands is the best in that area. Safe, No commuting problem, no traffic worries, you can practially walk to class just before 10 min.

I am looking at three apt buildings with studios for 500-550, they are all around this intersection: sunset ave and N Lewis Ave

thanks for the replies!!!!

Sunset and Lewis is not a location that I would recommend living in. I understand the rent is cheaper, but a lot of times in Waukegan, you get what you pay for. If the rent is cheaper, be advised it probably isn't in the most desirable location. Unfortunately, your probably looking to find something in the 800-900 range for the better locations.

Happy searching!

My family and I are moving into AMLI at Osprey Lake. We have lived in their properties in other states. Very well maintained everywhere we've been.

Very nice amenities...pool (indoor and outdoor), sauna, tennis courts, gym, etc. I have 2 boys (5th and 9th grade) that I want to be safe and have good schools. Gurnee looks to be very nice to my husband and I.

Here the link if you want to check it out.

don't feel like you have to live in the woodlands or the school dorms though...they are VERY expensive compared to some of the places you can find around the school.

I live in "waukegan". i say it in quotes because i have a waukegan area code but i wouldn't consider the area where i live to be waukegan (it's not a "ghetto")

you just need to look and decide what you will be comfortable with. I agree that you probably shouldn't get a studio at sunset and lewis, but i know a lot of people who lived at:

*The lakes at fountain square
*the landings (used to be northern crossing)
*apartments/little houses downtown lake bluff or lake forest (search online for the LAKE FORESTER, it's a newspaper from the area and if you look in the classifieds you can sometimes find places)
*Deer Valley, The Hamptons

these are just a few...

I'm living at Eagle Ridge in Waukegan. Its on Lewis and right by the Waukegan airport. Price was good and it seemed to be its own little community. I really haven't heard anything about it, good or bad. I figured I can live there for 9 months and be okay.

hey thanks soo much for the advice guys!!!

contact me if you wanna live at the landings. if you sign a lease, i'll take you out for a nice dinner.
