Hey guys,
I am a Canadian, and I'm thinking about attending school in the States. I am interested in the clinical experiences that many US schools gives to first and second year students, and also in Vision Therapy. I have heard that Pacific College of Optometry, SUNY and SCCO are pretty good schools for those things, but does any one have any feedback about them? I would really love to hear from someone who has attended these schools. Thanks!

You should look at which schools have the most Canadians as you will have common concerns re: Canadian Board exams, etc. The schools with 20+ Canadians are NECO, ICO, and Pacific. NECO, for one, has a large web of associated clinics.

as far as vt and clinical at scco... they definitely do a lot of both... clinical stuff starts first quarter as a first year and by spring quarter of second year you are seeing patients for full exams in the clinic.. and summer (where i am now) is 6 weeks of patients in 4 depts (vt, primary care, cls, and optical)... they shove a ton of visiion therapy down your throat too; so if you like that it may be a good thing... after learning more about it its definitely not something I am interested in... but there are a bunch of rotation sites for 4th year that are vt and you will probably be able to get them if your class is anything like mine (i think most people come to the realization that most of who do vt are not really optometrists.. you can train a high school kid that is good wiht kids to do the training) good luck and if you have any other questions let me know 🙂

oh the other thing i was gonna say is there are usually 1-5 canadians in each class at my school (scco) so dont feel like you have to go somewhere just cause a lot of other canadians go there.... do what is best for you
