This is my last week at work (thank goodness) - and I'm soon to be unemployed. I've been planning on attending UCSD extension for the fall quarter, and then transferring to CSU-LA/SFSU for the remainder of the prereqs. I'm doing this because I'm too late to apply for CSU-LA/SFSU fall quarter.

Is this a bad idea? Should I just wait until the next quarter to start off with a clean slate at CSU-LA/SFSU? I could find a job in the meantime and save up some money right now. But I'm just getting a little antsy...

I saw suggestions to take an EMT course to get better volunteer work. I've also thought about working as HCP at a hospital so I could get a PAID healtchare experience. Any other similar suggestions??

Why would you go to UCSD extension? Just because the title UCSD is attached doesn't mean that it's UCSD quality. You will have to pay a lot to receive the same kind of education you would receive at one of the San Diego Community College's.

Your best bet is to get some volunteer work under your belt or do that HCP thing and get paid. Patient/Hospital experience is a must for med schools. They want to know that you know what you're getting into. They're investing a lot into you and want assurance that you will complete med school.

Hi jackfibi. Thanks for the advice - I will try to get as much experiences as I can. As for UCSD extension - I guess I should make that clearer. UCSD extension also has a program called concurrent enrollment. Concurrent enrollment allows students to take normal classes at UCSD (like their bio, ochem) without being a registered student. It's their Open University.
