science gpa

I don't know if ALL schools calculate science GPA, but they will certainly see from your transcripts that your science grades are lower than your other grades. It doesn't particularly look good for the science grades to be that low, since that's all you're going to be taking in OD school. Call the schools you're interested in and talk to the admissions offices about it.

SUNY does calculate your science gpa, but just for the pre req science grades

I believe that ICO calculates the Science GPA for not just your Pre-req classes, but also any other science classes that you have taken.

they say the average student has a college gpa of 3.4 going into optometry school.
does anyone know the average science/pre-req gpa?

I think your science GPA should be somewhat close to your college GPA. Obviously in most cases the science GPA will be lower, because some of the pre-reqs are hard, and most college classes are easy... but they want to see that you try harder in the classes that are important. I think they're definitely looking for above a 3.0 science GPA.

And for the original question... whether the school actually calculates a number for your science GPA isn't all that relevant. They will all scrutinize your transcripts.

If you apply without a pre req done, is there a possibility of getting accepted and not having to complete the pre req. for me im just missing 1 english class for suny's 1 year of english requirement. i thought they let you apply without having a pre req done only if ur currently taking it or i guess planning on it, but i dont want to have to take it at all, i mean do you get an interview without pre regs and possible a acceptance or do they just want u to get in the application part asap?

I'm pretty sure they want those Pre-Reqs completed by the time you are ready to enter Opt school. You can apply if you haven't completed the Pre-Req yet, just as long as you indicate when you will complete it. You can submit your application asap.

You can apply without all of your pre-reqs done (as previous poster said) and be accepted but if you do not complete that pre-req they will retract your acceptance. If it's a requirement, it's a requirement.
