Regarding the ERAS personal statement:
I heard from one attending (a particularly gruff guy, and not a dermatologist) that a personal statement can only hurt an application. A great one won't seal the deal, but a bad one can stop a candidate cold. That said, I wrote a pretty zany personal statement for my med school application, and, well, I'm in med school.
I was wondering how a personal statement with a good deal of humor would be perceived, as long as the overarching message of my interest in derm was also conveyed at the same time.
The reason i ask is, I've thought about writing an "ordinary" personal statement where i just recount various patients with skin problems, and how I fell in love with derm and all that jazz, and it just rings false.
any thoughts?
