It seems like there have been more mentions of supplemental applications this cycle than during previous ones.
I didn't have any supplemental app's last year but a few of the programs I interviewed at last year now appear to have them. I am certainly glad I matched before I had to deal with even MORE paperwork.
Anyone care to comment on why this has become more in vogue during this cycle? It certainly serves as an additional screening tool, and will weed out a certain percentage of the shotgunners, but it's probably a lot more cumbersome for the interview committee.
Also, it would be helpful if anyone has any insight on if ALL applicants receive a supplemental application vs only selected applicants.
